I’m Special... On my way from Heaven, God delayed my trip that day. He said that I was special, and then sent me on my way. But not before he kissed me, right upon my ear. He left his blessed mark, to carry with me here. He whispered in my ear right then, that he loved me without doubt. And then he closed my ear up tight, so the whisper won’t get out. He told me both my legs were strong, and would help me stand up tall. He told me both my arms would work, to catch me if I fall. My eyes would catch my memories, to store within the pages of my mind. My heart would fill with all things that I would love, so many things, I would find. He told me I could fall asleep, to my Daddy’s bedtime tale, and listen while my Mother sings, of seas and boats with sails. One ear, he told me, could hear the sounds, that little birdies make. The other ear was His gift to me, a blessing for my sake. For when I’m feeling sad, He said, my other ear would hear, He whispered words of eternal love, left waiting for me there.

Two dear friends of ours have just published a book on Microtia. Simone Cheadle (Author) and Lisa Guirdanella (Illustrator), Simone and Lisa both are mums of Children who have Microtia Atresia, Simone's daughter Chelsea has had reconstructive surgery with Dr Reinisch in May 2009, and Lisa's son Ayden is booked for surgery with Dr Reinsich in December 2010.
This is a wonderful book about a little girl called Chelsea who has Microtia/Atresia, and a new boy commences at Chelsea's school and he has never seen anyone with Microtia/ Atresia so he asks lots of Questions. It is a great story book to have as a parent who's child has Microtia/Atresia, and is a wonderful book to read to your child who may be able to relate to the character Chelsea.

It has now been 10 weeks since Luca's surgery and his ear is healing well and is looking great. We have noticed that his swelling is minimal and his ear is hardly swollen in the morning even when he sleeps on it.

It has been 8 weeks since Luca's ear reconstruction operation, and we are very happy with his "new" ear, It is still swollen (tends to be more in the morning as he sleeps on it sometimes) but all in all is looking amazing, as per Dr Reinisch's instructions we have stopped all treatment (applying creams etc) for now. His hair has grown back on his head (where skin graft was taken) but is still quiet itchy. Luca really loves his new ear, but is still not sure about his short hair.

Wow where has the time flown it is now 12 weeks since Luca's surgery and Luca's ear looks great we are so happy with the outcome, but there is still a lot of healing to be done. We have also noticed an improvement within Luca mainly his self confidence we will be testing this in a few short weeks. Luca will be attending Further On with Cora Barclay Centre, it is an Annual Event that show cases the children at the centre that are of school age. As Luca will be commencing school next year we have been asked to make a small presentation about our recent trip to USA, and am hoping Luca will say a few words.
